I am the Middle School Technology Coordinator who teaches an 8th grade class (Computer8) at The Kinkaid School. I am a wife, a mother, and now a grandmother of three beautiful grandchildren. After becoming a grandmother it became more important to me to connect to another generation--the one that was my mother's. She always told me to "get those stories before it's too late!"
Along with a friend, Gretchen Odum, from college (whose mother was just as persistent) we thought up the idea of working together on a service-learning project with my students and her group of older adults (Second Family) at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church. The students would provide a service to the older adults helping them write their life stories as they learned from the adults about life and about the computer skills necessary to do the job. Every year we do it we learn more. Now I'm ready to share the experience with others.
